An Open Invitation to All Secondary School Principals in TSW
I write to invite you to partner with us to deliver a FREE English tutorial and life planning program from September this year onward to under-privileged students in your school who need extra help in English and life planning.
By way of introduction, we are a group of Wah Yan College graduates who have since April 2015 started a free English tutorial program for 300 nos. Forms 2 to 4 students whose families live in Tin Shui Wai (TSW) and are receiving public assistance. In the past three intakes, students came from 11 schools including

Over 25 voluntary tutors who are either Wah Yan graduates or their family members participated in these three intakes serving some 50 classes each with 12 or below students. They came from different walks of life including doctor, lawyer, banker, accountant, IT professional, etc. Each student is provided with 1 1/4 hours tutorial a week for ten weeks and our mode of operation is detailed in the link below;

You will be pleased to know that our program is recommended by two Jesuit Fathers, the two current principals as well as the Past Students Assn. of Wah Yan College HK and Kowloon. The entire Wah Yan community is therefore behind us. Please see the link below for details;

Based on the success of our last three intakes, we hope to extend our service to help even more needy students in TSW starting from September. We would therefore like to partner with individual secondary schools in TSW and send our tutors there to help their students after school.
While our side will be responsible for providing voluntary tutors who are all university graduates ( most have a second degree too), giving them the training required and paying for all related expenses, your side will be responsible for selection of needy students, grouping them into appropriate small classes of similar English level to facilitate teaching, provision of classrooms, and selection and photocopying of teaching materials for student use. (We can provide appropriate teaching materials too, if needed.) All lessons will be conducted within your school on Fridays after school or Saturday mornings. Subject to demand and available tutors, we hope to hold at most four classes for each participating school.
In fact, we are not only ready to give financially poor students a helping hand to improve their English competency, we shall also try to guide them to plan their own life and achieve their personal goals. Our service is absolutely free and aims to also help these under-privileged students toimprove their self-image and confidence, and guide them to become responsible citizens. At the same time, it provides an opportunity for Wah Yan graduates to give back to society what they have taken from it and spread the Wah Yan ” Men for and with Others” spirit. No religion or politics, however, will be touched.
Our encounter with such TSW students reveals that most of their English is significantly lower than their counterparts and need help to catch up.
